Parallel Polymer Synthesis Facility

Automated synthesizers are common in industry, but we are one of only three academic institutions who have access to this technology. The SLT100 Accelerator is manufactured by Chemspeed, Basel Switzerland. This advanced instrument performs intelligent dispensing of liquid and solid reagents with excellent precision, temperature control from –20 to 150 degrees Celsius, vortexing, purification by filtration, and solvent removal.

Kilogram Scale Synthesis Facility

The Center has a fully equipped laboratory for the kilogram-scale synthesis of polymers (up to 2 Kg). The laboratory is equipped with two state of the art bench top hoods and a walk in hood. Reaction vessels up to 22 L capacity can be conveniently set up in the laboratory or in the walk in hood. When particulate free product is desired, the last stage of the process can be carried out in a Class 10,000 clean room that is available in the same building.

State-of-the art GPC, and HPLC are available in the laboratory. Polymer characterization instruments are available in the adjacent characterization laboratory of the Center. The kilogram-scale synthesis laboratory is available for use by academic collaborators and industrial members for unassisted or assisted use.
