RUTGERS

Using the Polymer Lab Facilities

The Polymer Processing and Characterization Laboratory is a division of the New Jersey Center for Biomaterials and it offers services to academic collaborators or industrial members of the New Jersey Center for Biomaterials.

Routine fabrication and characterization of materials using our state-of-the-art characterization equipment includes assisted or unassisted use of the Center's equipment.

Capabilities

High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC): Waters Associates Alliance equipped with a dual wavelength UV detector is available.

Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA): Mettler-Tolido DSC823 and TGA/SDTA851e are currently being used.TA Instruments 2950 DSC is also available.

Quartz Crystal Microbalance with Dissipation (QCM-D): A Q Sense E-4 Unit is available.

Spin coating apparatus: A spin coater from Headway Research Inc (0 to 10,000 RPM) is housed in a humidity-controlled (10 to 20% RH) glove box. The glove box can also be used to handle biologically sensitive materials.

Ultracentrifuge: Beckman Coulter, Optima L-90k: Optima L utilizes the most advanced materials and technology to achieve the high performance needed - up to 100,000 rpm - for extending the boundaries of research. The imbalance-tolerant Optima L drive safely accommodates tubes that are under- or over-filled by as much as 10%

Current Rotor: Type 70.1 Ti, max speed=70000rpm or 449212xg

In addition to the above methods, the Polymer Synthesis & Characterization Laboratory can also provide methods development and contract research. The fees for these are determined on an individual basis.
